Antoine’s introduced the world to Oysters Rockefeller in 1889

Happy 175th birthday to the oldest family-owned, continually running restaurant in the country!

Opened in 1840 as a pension by 27-year-old French immigrant Antoine Alciatore, the eponymous restaurant has numerous claims to fame, including creating Oysters Rockefeller and Café Brûlot Diabolique. If it’s been a while since you’ve stopped by Antoine’s, this could be your year to revisit and wish it a happy birthday. Explore the countless dining rooms, take in all of the artifacts and think of all the secrets that have been shared inside these walls throughout the years.

Don’t forget about one of the best lunch deals in the city ($20 for three-course prix fixe and 25-cent martinis!). The Hermes Bar for happy hour is prime for people-watching.
