Local favorite NOLA Brewing is still going strong, and the taproom on Tchoup is a great place to try some of their less commercial experiments, like Girl Stout Cookie (Irish Channel Stout with peppermint, lactose and cocoa nibs). Rebirth Pale Ale, a delicious pale ale that supports the Roots of Music with each beer sold, was just added to the already-impressive lineup.

More good news for local beer lovers: NOLA is soon to have company in the city. Courtyard Brewery, a nanobrewery planning to open this summer in the Lower Garden District, will offer its own experimental brews as well as other hard-to-find beers. Start-up brewery Cajun Fire, recent winner of the Great Idea challenge during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week, hopes to open in the city later this year.
